Not having walked a mile in Mike Watt's shoes, but spending an early
morning, and afternoon with him this past January, I feel I've been witness to a
man who truly has the gift of crafting a personal life event into a song that
has a deeper meaning than when I first listened. Beltsandedman is not fully
grasped without getting to know Mike a little closer.
I had this opportunity during the video shoot down in "Pedro." Traveling
to a few selected locations, not only was the video shot, but from Mike, I was
able to glean much of the history of San Pedro, along with his account of
painfully clinging to life, and being restored to health again. Hopefully this
video sheds some light on this time in Mike's life. Thanks to all who were
there, Mike, Peter, Jerry, Petra, Mike, and Bob. It was an experience I will not soon forget!

I was floating over the mountain that separates the valley from west L.A. on the 405. The sun was about to rise. Lady Godiva’s Operation was my soundtrack. I should’ve left earlier. Slacker. As I floated into Pedro, the sun was about to rise. It was beautiful. We need to get some early morning shots. When I got to Mike’s he was a bundle of nerves. He was a gelatinous mess, a quivering mound of runny goat cheese. He clearly needed one of two things - A severe beating, which I was more than ready to administer, or to get in the shit.

I grabbed the grub and we rode to the first set up, the Ocean. The sun was rising. The cameras were purring. This is gonna be cool. The cast showed up. Watt. Yeah. We shot it quick. The day barely begun and the shoot was over. I went home and had my son baptized.
