Beltsandedman Video  Director's Synopsis

Intro

The sound of the winds is heard. Quick Flashes and ghosting to  stylized drawings of “The Divine Comedy” These flashes will scroll across the top half of the screen morphing one to another. In one corner of the bottom half of the screen will be an entrance to a surreal forest scene. In the middle will be Watt (green screened) pacing. Look up at the visuals and looking to the side at the forest entrance. Then finally walking into the forest beginning the video (Watt moves swiftly walking through bush, all very tight shots on the way to the shack.)

Beltsandedman – Synopsis

An underlying theme exists in the shooting of “beltsandedman”. The video (without the intro) starts with shots at ground level, from shoes walking swiftly and alternating from mid body shots to head shots then back to ground level, all close up tight. Each shot from then on coaxes Watt to ascend to higher ground then even higher ground and wider space, ending on top overlooking Watt’s shoulder and the sea.

I hope to convey an environment that improves as time passes.

I plan on using progressive colorations (changing the intensity and hue of a particular scene or shot) this could happen very slow or very quickly). Examples might be where the lyrics “to crack the hatch and take a deep breath”  or “outside, sun soaked I was bathed” (color tone may go from gray to color or just red or blue tones in a subtle gradation). Coloration will play a big part in the emotional feel of the song.

The sound of the song has psychedelic ties (buzz bass, high tone vocals). I think this should be handled with multiple saturated composites. Remember the split screens in Woodstock? During filming, this will call for Watt to look up and follow something across a path during certain parts of the lyrics. Examples would be the mention of the bone yard. There will be a visual over Watt’s head (probably slow motion) of the bone yard or when the “harbor fills Watt’s (My) gaze”, and certainly not limited to these two examples.

Throughout the video I will be using split screen and multiple images including images to tie  in the lyric with the visuals. This will include tie ins to Cantos XXVIII-XXXIII, I will also be using the lyrics as part of the overall visuals (falling lyrics\words and ascending letters).

My plan is to produce a visually stimulating video that has a definite premise, meaning and emotion.

At the Rehearsal Pad

Four cameras, hand held and secured will be used to capture everyone every step of the way. These shot will be used mostly during the instrumental part of the song. These shots will also be used in a split screen to show two or more of the musicians at the same time.
